You have starred in countless prime time TV shows and have worked with incredible Award Winning Directors. Why do you think you’ve had such a successful career?
I’ve been really lucky and also worked really hard. A lot of people tried to put me off moving to the US because I had such a fruitful career in London. But I felt like I exhausted all avenues in the UK, I am really thankful but I was starring in BBC shows by the age of 13 and had already performed at the National Theatre in London by 21! It is quite funny actually, I performed for the Not On Our Watch charity (founded by Hollywood Stars, George Clooney, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle) and I had a conversation George Clooney who supported the idea of moving to the states, and that is what I did!
You have trained at the best acting academies in the world. How important do you think training is for a budding actor?
I honestly think training is everything, I have been training since I was eight years old. I attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School, Italia Conti and got a scholarship at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I believe that this played a massive factor in me booking so much work- I was prepared and nurtured my skill and passion for the craft!
You have worked with a lot of famous actors and artists, including one of my favourites Wizz Khalifa, who was your favourite?
Wow, that is a very hard question. I loved working with Mack Wilds from the hit show ‘90210’, I played his love interest in the ‘Under the Influence’ commercial with ‘Wizz Khalifa’, ‘I AM SU’, ‘Rich Homie Quan’ and ‘DJ Drama’. I also loved starring in the Too Short ’19,999’ video, it was great exposure and received over 3 million views on WorldE Star Hip Hop within the first week!
I am a huge fan of the Emmy Award winning show ‘Funny or Die’, I heard that you recently starred in a spoof video for the show alongside Hip Hop Legend Waka Flocka, how was that?
It was great!! I played a model called ‘Sugar Model’. The whole segment was promoting Veganism, which is something very close to me as I am a huge advocate for the protection of animals! The Cast and crew were great and they treated me very well!
Here at Elucid we absolutely loved your role as ‘Michelle’ in the show ‘Caso Cerrado’, your performance was very comical and bold. You were flown to Miami and cast to be a lead in Caso Cerrado, the only Hispanic Show to be nominated for an Emmy Award. How did you deal with the exposure from that show?
It was actually really crazy! The show receives millions of viewers a week but I didn’t think people were actually going to recognise me, but they did. I had women stopping me in public bathrooms asking to take pictures with me. Again, it was an honour to have worked with Telemundo and I will be working with them very soon!
So it is no secret that you have some very influential fans and supporters- aka Daniel Craig (James Bond) and Samantha Cameron (The UK’S first lady). How have they helped you in your career?
They actually watched me when I starred in ‘Humanity’ at the Cockpit Theatre in London a good few years ago. They are great mentors and I obviously look up to them a lot.
You have worked with countless award winning directors. What was it like working with Award Winning Dallas King?
U.Z.L.A. was one of the first features I did in LA, I played the lead character ‘Padilla’. It is a great movie about zombies that invade the UCLA campus. The movie won a place at the Sunscreen Festival, which was an amazing experience, we were all very happy!! Dallas was also a great director, he always knew exactly what he wanted which was very refreshing.
Mary is represented by Robert Barnes Management/126 Management in the UK and US. Mary Cruz will also star in ‘Mosaic Worldwide Studios’ Production of ‘The Neighbor’, she will play the lead ‘Dr Kieren’ which will also star Trina McGee and will be directed by Marcello Thedford.
