This New York Fashion Week, On February 10th, famed artist Domingo Zapata’s participated in the Arts Hearts Fashion show in New York City.  Domingo Zapata’s incorporated his highly anticipated art installation into a fashion show titled “Be Yourself Tags are on Facebook”  in support of the transgender community. Art Hearts Fashion provides a unique platform where artists such as Domingo Zapata have the opportunity to showcase their expressionistic art in a fashion week setting.

Zapata feels very close to the transgender community. Zapata’s daughter Domingo, who was born male, now identifies as a girl. To show unwavering support for the community and his daughter, Zapata’s “Be Yourself Tags are for Facebook” show featured some models who are transgender. All proceeds from the show went to benefit Camp Aranu’tiq, an organization that provides fun and safe camp experiences for transgender youth..

 

Zapata’s work exploded on the runway; an incredible mix of Fashion, Art, Fun, Mixed Media, Excitement and more...,.female models walked in painted matador jackets, while male models walked in painted gowns. Zapata selected the garments from a few of the fashion world’s most respected designers including Marija Shatilo of Lace & Angels, Vicky Martín Berrocal and Commes Des Garçons were featured.

The unique concept and admirable message attracted designers and celebrities alike. The catwalk and audience were mutually star-studded; models included celebrities such as Kelly Rutherford, Hiba Abouk, Jordi Mollà, Luis Ortiz and Chef Jean George while invited guests included actor Adrien Brody and designer Steve Madden.

 

Audience members were enthralled and excited- it was definitely one of the most talked about nights of Fashion Week this year!! "Domingo Zapata’s"
