Today we’d like to introduce you to Francesco Malandrino.

HELLO FRANCESCO, THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO TALK WITH US, LEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF WHO IS FRANCESCO MALANDRINO?

Currently, I work as Director of Photography and Camera Operator in Los Angeles, California. I am an Associate member of Society of Camera Operators (SOC), always inclined to create images for entertainment. Cinematography is my passion, my job, my life

OFTENTIMES, WE FIND THE WORLD OF FILM ASSOCIATED WITH HOLLYWOOD, CA. IN WHAT WAYS HAS LIVING IN CALIFORNIA HELPED YOUR CAREER?

I think that the main key is making a connection, this works everywhere! I mean it doesn’t matter if you live in Hollywood or any other place in the world, of course Hollywood is a magic place, especially for all cinematographers, you never stop to learn something new day by day, and this make the difference

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?

In the last 3 years I have tested a new experience of work, I worked as CO-Cinematographers with Maria Perlifonova, Obviously we are not the first two be director of photography at the same films, I love to share set with Maria, she is very talent, and our ideas coincide 99% of the time, this make our job comfortable and probably more interesting than it already is.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?

It hasn’t been a smooth road for me, I can say that it was a road with a lot of obstacles and challenges, but I like challenges especially if they concern my greatest passion. Exactly passion, I absolutely think that this is the main key of the success in every careers, without passion maybe it’s too hard for anyone, in the most difficult moments of my career, passion for what I do, the desire to create, experiment and shoot every single day helped me a lot to figured out and made great projects.

Something really important, a lesson that I have learned since I have been doing this activity is that: relationship with others is extremely important. If you work in film industry especially in Hollywood where you met and you work with a lot of people, and large crew members, creating a good relationship with your colleagues can only help you and the quality of the project, respect is essential for me, and when you work in an environment of professionals where there is respect and professionalism then you are in the right place for testing your skills as an artist, this was my experience.

Thank you very much Francesco Malandrino for your time, and good luck for the rest of your career.
