Chemically-bloated products are a huge problem in the beauty industry. Not only are they causing unnecessary impairment to our skin, but they can also bring about serious health risks. That’s why it’s crucial to use only the safest and most effective beauty products on the shelves the world over.

There's no doubt that the beauty market is booming, but with all the hype and competition, it can be hard to navigate. One of the biggest conundrums in the beauty industry is that a lot of products are being marketed as healthy and safe when they're actually not. We need to acknowledge that beauty products are regulated differently around the globe. With so many options on the market, it can be tricky to know which ones are safe to use and which ones could present peril concerning your health.

There are a number of other potential health risks in concert with beauty products. Acne-fighting ingredients, such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and retinol, are affixed to skincare products such as toners and spot treatments, to treat acne, blackheads, and other blemishes. These are fine to deploy in moderation, but overuse could lead to increased dryness, peeling, and irritation, particularly around the eyes where the skin is rather delicate.

Strong antiaging ingredients, like retinol, can also make you more sensitive to the sun, so it’s important to use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 any time you go outdoors.

Ethoxylated ingredients, commonly found in shampoos, soaps, and other household items, are linked to eye and skin irritation. Many shampoos and other skin care products contain sulfates, which have been linked to skin and eye irritation in people with sensitive skin. Parabens, which are often found in deodorants, fragrances, and other cosmetics, are thought to disrupt hormones.

Many people are now looking for natural beauty products that don’t contain potentially harmful ingredients, but it can be tricky to know what ingredients to track down. There are many natural, safer alternatives to toxic beauty items. For example, coconut oil can be used as a moisturizer, sunscreen, and teeth whitener. Avocado oil is a great moisturizer and can also be used as a makeup remover. You can also make your own beauty products at home with natural ingredients, like making a homemade face mask with cucumber slices.

When buying beauty-related merchandise, read the ingredients listed on the box or bottle to know exactly what you’re depositing on your skin. It might feel like a lot of work, but it’s really important to know what you’re putting on your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. Avoid products with parabens, which are chemicals that are used as preservatives in many detrimental skincare and makeup products known to cruise under the clinical radar.
