For young performer Amberle Cheng, what began as a new dance opportunity quickly turned into an international adventure, complete with two major competition awards, a professional television studio performance, and an unforgettable journey through China.
The experience began in March 2026, when Amberle enrolled at Real Music Blood Dance Studio. After recognizing her potential, her teacher encouraged her to enter the preliminary competition for the 2026 China Blue Shining Stars International Arts and Culture Week, hosted by Zhejiang Radio and Television Group and held in New York City on June 19.
Amberle saw the competition as an opportunity to challenge herself. Rather than entering in just one category, she decided to compete in both singing and dancing. It was an ambitious choice—and one that ultimately paid off.
Two Disciplines, Two Major Awards
Amberle had already been developing her voice for two years but preparing to compete simultaneously as a singer and dancer required a new level of commitment. She continued refining her vocal performance while putting particular focus into her hip-hop training, determined to arrive prepared in both disciplines.
On competition day, Amberle performed Laufey's "Falling Behind" in the singing category and a hip-hop routine to Talk Dirty" by Jason Derulo in dance.
The results exceeded expectations. Amberle received the Grand Gold Award in Singing and the Platinum Award in Dance. More important than the trophies, however, was what the competition represented.
By entering two very different categories, Amberle had deliberately pushed herself beyond her comfort zone and proven that she could confidently showcase multiple sides of herself as a performer. But the experience wasn't finished. Her success opened the door to an even bigger opportunity, this time thousands of miles from home.
Taking Her Talent to China
Following the competition, Amberle was invited to travel to China and showcase her talents at the headquarters of Zhejiang Radio and Television Group. It would be her first experience performing inside a professional television network studio.
Walking onto the set was very different from entering the dance studios and performance spaces she already knew. There were multiple cameras, professional production equipment, a full television crew, and a makeup artist preparing her for filming. It was exciting. It was also nerve-racking.
For the first time, Amberle had to adapt her performance to the environment of a professional television production while remaining focused and confident in front of the cameras. She rose to the challenge.
Amberle performed both singing and dance during the studio showcase, bringing the same energy and preparation that had earned her recognition in New York. What initially felt intimidating quickly became one of the most valuable experiences of her young performing career.
For Amberle, it offered a firsthand look at an entirely different side of entertainment, the work, preparation, technology, and people required to create a professional television production. And more importantly, she discovered that she could handle it.
More Than a Performance
The trip also became an opportunity for Amberle to connect with China beyond the television studio. Following the showcase, Zhejiang Radio and Television Group organized a five-day cultural journey for the international participants.
Amberle experienced both sides of a country where centuries of history exist alongside rapidly evolving modern cities. One of the most memorable moments came when she had the opportunity to wear a traditional Miao costume, including its distinctive traditional headwear, while visiting a historic village dating back approximately 500 years.
Walking through the village offered a glimpse into traditions and cultural heritage very different from the modern surroundings she would experience elsewhere on the trip.
Discovering Hangzhou
The contrast became particularly striking in Hangzhou. After experiencing the history of the traditional village, Amberle explored the city's contemporary architecture, vibrant atmosphere, and modern lifestyle.
Seeing both during the same journey gave her an opportunity to appreciate the relationship between China's past and present. It also transformed what could have simply been a trip for a performance into something much bigger. Amberle wasn't only there to sing and dance.
She was traveling, learning, experiencing another culture, and creating memories that would remain with her long after she returned home.
Turning Opportunity Into Experience
Perhaps the most significant part of Amberle's journey is how quickly one decision created another opportunity. She joined a dance studio. Her teacher encouraged her to compete. She chose to challenge herself in two disciplines. She won two awards. Those awards led to an invitation to China. And that invitation put her inside a professional television studio for the first time. Each step required Amberle to say yes to something she hadn't done before. The result was a summer filled with milestones: the Grand Gold Award in Singing, the Platinum Award in Dance, an international television showcase, and a cultural journey across China.
For Amberle Cheng, the experience demonstrated just how far preparation and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone can take you. What started in a dance studio in March ultimately took her halfway around the world. And it is only the beginning.
